Current Module

Mini Theatre

Week 1 :
This programme will be teaching interactive drama skills and continuing to work at a lower level on rhythm and coordination skills.

Children will be making up some short plays to perform to the school on current themes, and also developing costume ideas.

Week 2

The children have continued to work on their playwriting and puppetry skills by starting to use puppets as aides to help them in joke-telling sessions

Week 3

Children have developed playscripts and are now working to put their ideas together. They are developing props and costumes lists. I have had at least one unexpected new playscript presented by a very talented young writer and we hope to be looking at this in the next session.

Some more refined joke-telling with the children's own toys involved.

We have also started to learn how to sing a round. Remind me next time to arrange the chairs in a circle!!

Week 4

More play rehearsals due. I hope everyone will practise their lines and bring their costumes!!

Week 5

Sound and Rhythm

Week 1 :
In this week the children make up the Skills, Inc. Meifod anthem using their own words. they learn how to coordinate clapping and singing with a drum beat. This is to develop not only dexterity but confidence in singing REALLLY LOUD! They also spend some time developing speaking skills through a series of games - learning how to develop character voices. Finally the children play a mime game stimulated by sound effects.

Five of the children have been asked to give a short performance of something - a poem, a song, a dance, or a musical instrument recital for next week. The children will all have an opportunity to do this over the coming weeks.

Week 2
In this week the children continue to develop their "animal voices" and start building dialogue ideas to match the characters. They also build their anthem to include clapping and moving in unison. Games feature this week, and children listen to each other perform their various prepared items.

Week 3
During week three pupils consolidate work on moving in unison by learning how to imitate each other's steps. This is the beginning of a dance sequence. We lok at left/right co-ordination and rhythm recognition

They continue with the development of their anthem and learn to take turns with the lead role. We are now looking at vocal coordination - pupils are learning to time their singing to a drum beat and to hear where they must start to sing.

Children's individual performance are still really entertaining!

They also start making up a play using sound effects.

Week 4
This week we are going to start planning actions to our words to complete the anthem. This is made all the more exciting this week by the news that we have been invited to take part in the village show parade - on a green theme! This is a great chance to practise up more home-spun verses and chants, learn more patterns and really come together as a team!

This week we are again practising the steps to our "Walk This Way"dance routine which was a lot of fun last week.

We hope to hear those last individual performances - always a high point!

Also we are going to discuss our theatre ideas and build on our groupwork to see how our plays will work in practice.

We may have time for a song....

Week 5

Last week :

This week we will be focusing on brushing up the anthem and "Walk This Way" for the parents.
